EXPLORER POST 343

Explorer Post 343 is a youth program for males and females aged 14 to 20 years old who are interested in the fire service and  looking to help their community and receive community service hours. Fire Explorer programs are sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.  Members meet twice each month and participate in various fire department training and education sessions. We offer a “Ride Along” program that allows them to interact with firefighters and ride along on emergency calls. This exciting experience allows our explorers to get a first hand look at what a career in the fire service is all about.

Members of the Pueblo Fire Department serve as Advisors and have volunteered many hours to develop the program. The Advisors are trained and fully committed to developing the youths in the program.

The Pueblo Fire Department Explorers program was established in 2005 and named Explorer Post 343. The Post number “343” is significant. It honors the 343 FDNY Firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center Terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

There are approximately 20 explorers in the program. Members are given uniforms and receive a rank depending on their position in the program. Leadership ranks include Explorer Chief, Deputy Chief, Training Chief, and Captains. Core values taught to the members include Safety, Loyalty, Duty, Responsibility, Respect, Honor, Integrity, and Teamwork.

If you would like more information on joining this outstanding program, please contact Pueblo Firefighters Joey Gutierrez or Steve Fassi at Fire Station One at (719)553-2801.
